Are you among those who have been writing online for a fairly long time yet haven’t achieved the success you desire? Then we are in the same boat! I am sharing my experience of success eluding me and the disillusionment accompanying it.
For the past few months, I have dedicated myself to writing full-time on Medium, my travel website, and various other platforms. Juggling the role of a homemaker and writer, overcoming numerous challenges to balance work and domestic chores.
Since August 2023, I have been continuing on this journey with increased vigor. Although my tryst with Medium began a year ago, it’s in recent times that I’ve significantly upped my game, consistently producing 10 to 12 articles per month.
In my quest to enhance both my writings and earnings on Medium, I’ve also been reading articles offering insights into improving my craft. Some of the success stories have been inspiring, prompting me to bring meaningful improvements in various aspects of my work. This includes :
- Consistency — writing regularly and putting in greater effort.
- Variety of Topics — I’ve realized that I can share my knowledge on different topics, rather than confining myself to writing on just one or two niche topics.
- Enhancing the Layout, and Style: improving the structure and style of my articles to align with the requirements on Medium.
It has been a roller coaster ride, peppered with highs and lows. I began as a travel writer, documenting my vast travel experiences, and sharing them online. Overtime, I transitioned into freelancing for a few websites. I was quite happy with the appreciation, though the monetary benefits were not satisfactory.
Plus, facing the growing skepticism of AI taking over content writing jobs ??!!

Experimenting and trying out different methods to reach my goals, and overcoming feelings of doubt; my extensive international travel sojourns to more than 25 countries motivated me to take a step further and set up my travel website. My expertise is in writing about diverse places, cultures, and people.
While my efforts have yielded some favorable results ( in the form of increased followers and claps), they haven’t quite met my initial expectations.
The outcomes, both in terms of monetary rewards and the desired recognition, along with personal satisfaction, have proven somewhat disillusioning.
I would like to mention, without sounding boastful, that I hold a postgraduate degree in English literature, and have done several courses to enhance my skills, including a workshop on content writing. Additionally, I have a substantial number of years of experience in travel writing. As such, I am well qualified, with competencies that are at par with highly successful writers.
Yet fortune continues to be evasive. I am sure many of you resonate with my frustration and can shed some light?
Nevertheless, looking at the bright side, this journey has been a valuable learning experience, which I have learned to take in my stride. Teaching me to navigate challenges with resilience. I am confident of my abilities and would continue to work hard in the pursuit of excellence, aspiring to achieve significant results.
