Road trips give a different flavor to your vacation. For those who are fond of long drives, whizzing off in their cars is a perfect way to de-stress. And if you’ve had enough of air travel or train travel, road trips are the perfect solution. This blog will give you a fair idea for your next vacation and inspire you to hit the roads. Specially, in the current pandemic scenario, when social distancing is so vital road trips are the perfect option.
Firstly, let’s begin by looking at the factors why road trips are great and later in the blog tips for how to plan a road trip.
There is the flexibility of time — you can start your journey at your own convenient time and pace, halt on the way to admire the beauty of the landscape, for photography, or for a tea/ meal break. Alter the course of your journey if you feel like it.
Road trips score high on comfort and privacy. Unlike planes, trains, or any other public transport, it’s just you and your family or friends. As such you are free to do what you want to — play board games or chat, sing, or sleep.
Some of us no matter how hard we try, always end up having lots of luggage. That’s one more advantage of traveling in your own vehicle. You can carry more bags without being charged extra.
One aspect of a road trip is that you get glimpses into the culture of the place. Whether it be food when you stop for a meal, local products sold on the way, or country life as you wind your way through towns and villages!
TIPS FOR HOW TO PLAN A ROAD TRIP
As per Google trends, in the past year, 58% of travelers were interested in road trips. Below are some tips for an invigorating road trip :
- Make sure to know the route to your destination properly. Even though the path less traveled is adventurous, this is to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
- Sometimes due to repair works the route that you’ve planned to take might be inaccessible. Find out about that before embarking. I am mentioning this because as per my own experience, on a road trip from Bangalore, just as we reached the toll booth on the outskirts of the city, we were informed that the highway ahead was blocked. So we had to take a U-turn, steer through the peak hour traffic and take the route on the other end of the city, hence wasting time. Keep yourself updated and be prepared to take diversions if the need arises!
- Use google maps to navigate. It’s helpful not just for following the correct directions but also for locating restaurants of your choice, petrol stations or restrooms.
- If you’re self-driving, get your vehicle serviced before your journey. Check all the details.
- It is important to fill up petrol prior to starting, instead of waiting to fill it on the way. There’s no guarantee that you’ll find a proper gas station in between. So why take unnecessary risks!!
- Finally, follow all traffic norms, as being safe must be the priority.
It’s high time to leave all our troubles and worries behind and choose to drive off to your favorite destination for an enjoyable vacation with a dash of adventure !!
