Participating in the festive gaiety, and witnessing the celebrations around in my neighbourhood, my spirits are uplifted, and so is that of the entire community where I stay.
I am thankful that multifarious activities are organized in the complex that I live in (there are about 500 people) and there is never a dull moment.
A major highlight of this festival is being invited to homes for a special religious ceremony meant for the womenfolk. Homes are beautifully decorated with dolls depicting scenes from our epics and mythology. A lingering fragrance emanating from flowers and incense is pure bliss and revitalizing. I eagerly await these exuberant times, visiting these homes to admire the display and immerse in the divine atmosphere. The custom doesn’t end here, you are also given gifts and sweets as you depart.
Setting all this up does involve a lot of dedication and hard work. Each year the dolls are carefully packed and preserved — a ritual carried on from generation to generation.
Isn’t it an advantage of residing in apartment complexes? You get plenty of opportunities to be involved in diverse activities along with a deep community feeling. Additionally, giving us a chance to learn about the culture, traditions, food, and lifestyle of various states in India.
Especially during festivals people come together, celebrate, sing, dance, and participate in religious ceremonies. Organizing such functions though is not an easy task and requires teamwork, coordination, and time.
