My fondness for travel has prompted me and my family globetrotting to exotic destinations around the world. Additionally, giving us an opportunity to explore the far reaches of the globe — from the highly acclaimed, popular destinations, breathtaking vistas to the overhyped ones. Chiefly, characterized by seamlessly smooth and fun-filled experiences.

But just as it may happen in any aspect of life, so also in travel, sometimes things may go wrong that catches you off guard. Here’s my account of a trip to London marred by a misdemeanor which was the least that we expected and unnerving.

We had just touched down in the capital of the UK, London, buzzing with excitement, though exhausted after a 10-hour flight. Looking forward to the next fortnight of bliss, we reached the hotel after a 45-minute drive from the airport, jet-lagged and eyes barely opening. Sleep was my only requirement at that moment. (I am envious of people who can sleep like a baby on a plane, while I can barely catch a wink). Wishing that the check-in formalities at the hotel would fly by, I just longed to sink into the fresh, crisp linen sheets and doze off.

Contrary to anticipation, our happiness turned into shock when the receptionist informed us that our credit card was not working. Despite her trying…
